The Sindh government has signed two major agreements with Google to boost digital skills and support responsible media practices in the province.

At a ceremony chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday, two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to expand the Peoples IT Program (PITP) and launch a new Digital Journalism Scholarship initiative.

Speaking at the event, Murad Ali Shah highlighted the success of the PITP, saying thousands of students have already gained globally recognized IT skills. Over 4,300 graduates are now contributing to the economy, with a strong focus on women’s participation and representation from rural areas.

He announced the launch of PITP-II, allocating Rs1.4 billion to provide advanced training in 12 modern technologies to 35,000 students. Training will be offered through top institutions including NED University, Mehran University, and Sukkur IBA. Students from matriculation to graduation level will be eligible.

The second agreement focuses on the Google Digital Journalism 2.0 initiative, a joint effort of the Sindh government and Tech Valley. Under this program, 1,000 scholarships will be offered to journalists, government spokespersons, and media studies students.

Murad Ali Shah called the program a milestone for credible journalism and transparency. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said the initiative would help counter fake news and encourage responsible media practices across the province.
